- Personal injury law — also referred to as tort law — refers to the area of civil law that allows individuals who have been physically or psychologically injured through another party's negligence, recklessness, or intentional conduct to seek financial compensation. Common personal injury claims include motor vehicle accidents, slip-and-fall incidents, workplace injuries, medical malpractice, and product liability. In Washington State, the statute of limitations for most personal injury claims is three years from the date of injury (RCW 4.16.080).

In Washington, family law matters are governed primarily by Title 26 of the Revised Code of Washington.
