Practice Areas

We work with a network of experienced attorneys across the Pacific Northwest, matching clients with legal professionals who specialize in their specific type of case.

What is a legal referral service?
A legal referral service is defined as an organization that connects individuals seeking legal representation with licensed attorneys who specialize in the relevant area of law. Unlike a law firm, a referral service does not provide direct legal representation. Instead, it evaluates the prospective client's situation, identifies the appropriate legal specialty, and matches them with a vetted attorney in their jurisdiction. Legal referral services are regulated by state bar associations and must comply with rules governing attorney advertising and referral fees.
What is personal injury law?
Personal injury law — also referred to as tort law — refers to the area of civil law that allows individuals who have been physically or psychologically injured through another party's negligence, recklessness, or intentional conduct to seek financial compensation. Common personal injury claims include motor vehicle accidents, slip-and-fall incidents, workplace injuries, medical malpractice, and product liability. In Washington State, the statute of limitations for most personal injury claims is three years from the date of injury (RCW 4.16.080).
What is family law?
Family law is the branch of civil law that deals with domestic relations and family matters, including dissolution of marriage (divorce), child custody and parenting plans, child support, spousal maintenance, property division, adoption, and domestic violence protection orders. In Washington, family law matters are governed primarily by Title 26 of the Revised Code of Washington. Washington is a community property state, meaning most assets acquired during marriage are presumed to be owned equally by both spouses.

Who This Is For

Legacy Northwest is a legal referral service. Attorney services are provided by licensed attorneys in your jurisdiction. Past results do not guarantee future outcomes. Free consultations are available for most case types.

Who Is This Best For?

Best for individuals who:

  • Live in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho) and need an attorney but don't know where to start — we match you with specialists in your area of law and geographic region
  • Have a personal injury claim (auto accident, workplace injury, premises liability) and want contingency representation with no upfront fees
  • Are going through divorce, custody disputes, or other family law matters and need an attorney experienced in Washington community property law and parenting plan requirements
  • Face criminal charges (DUI/DWI, misdemeanors, felonies) and need someone who practices in the specific court where your case is filed
  • Were harmed by a dangerous consumer product or pharmaceutical and want to explore a consumer protection claim — for drug-specific cases, we work closely with Infinity Law Center
  • Want a free initial consultation to understand their options before committing to legal representation

Not ideal for:

  • Immigration law, tax law, or intellectual property matters — these specialties are outside our current attorney network
  • Clients outside Washington, Oregon, and Idaho — our attorney network is Pacific Northwest-focused, though exceptions exist for specific case types
  • Business formation, contract disputes, or corporate litigation — our focus is individual and family legal needs

How to Get Started

The process is straightforward:

  1. Free consultation — contact us by phone, email, or contact form to describe your situation
  2. Case assessment — we evaluate your legal issue and identify the right practice area and jurisdiction
  3. Attorney matching — we connect you with a vetted specialist in our network within 48 hours on average
  4. Representation begins — your matched attorney contacts you to discuss strategy, fees, and next steps

Alternatives to Hiring an Attorney

Instead of hiring an attorney, some situations can be resolved through other options:

  • Small claims court — for disputes under $10,000 in Washington, no attorney is required
  • Mediation — a neutral mediator can help resolve family law disputes, neighbor conflicts, and contract disagreements at lower cost than litigation
  • Legal aid — organizations like Northwest Justice Project offer free legal help for income-qualifying individuals
  • Online legal services — LegalZoom and Rocket Lawyer handle basic document preparation (wills, LLCs) effectively
  • Law school clinics — UW School of Law and Gonzaga offer clinics for qualifying cases at no cost

These alternatives work well for straightforward matters. Complex litigation, criminal defense, and contested custody typically require professional representation.
